Senate panel on Wednesday approved a $1 billion infusion of money for the Veterans Health Administration to help the nation’s oldest veterans cope with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee voted 13-3 to authorize a $964 million appropriation for VA Health Care to provide care to veterans in need.

The VA is one of three federal agencies charged with caring for the nations oldest veterans.

The funding will be used to provide services to about 2,000 veterans, the VA said.
