The world’s largest online fashion retailer, Amazon India, has decided to open a new store in New Delhi in a bid to expand its online business.
The Indian-owned online retail giant is also in the process of opening stores in Bangalore and Delhi.
The new location is a collaboration between the online retail chain and the digital fashion startup, Poshka, a company that sells designer fashion and accessories online.
“The idea is to offer a great value proposition to customers while offering a friendly, welcoming environment for our customers to interact and share ideas with each other,” said Poshkas chief executive officer Shashi Chawla.
Amazon India is currently expanding its online store to two locations in India, which is a major step for the company in the country.
Poshka is looking to sell online fashion items in the cities of Mumbai and Bengaluru, where the company’s online stores have been operating.
The new store will also serve as a “home base” for the online retailer, which has a presence in more than 50 cities across the country and plans to expand to India by the end of the year.
Pashupati, a 25-year-old student at Jawaharlal Nehru University, said she would like to open an online store and has recently been working on her design project, called The Girl.
“I’m excited about this project as it will help me get a job in India as a designer.
It will be a great opportunity to find new customers who are interested in my work and are interested by my passion for designing,” she said.
The project, titled ‘The Girl’, will have a print-on-demand service, where users will upload photos of their designs and be given the option to purchase items from Poshkas store.
Poshko’s business model will be to offer products online, but with a physical presence, Chawlas said.
“There are a number of online fashion stores around India, but we think this is the best solution to serve a large customer base.
It gives us the flexibility to serve different communities,” he said.
Pashupatis work has taken her to Bengaluru in the past and now to New Delhi.
“My dream is to be a fashion designer in India and I hope to do that by the middle of next year,” she added.
Pamela, a 23-year old student, said her design has been in the works for almost three years.
She works as a digital designer for a small fashion label in Bengaluru.
“We have a really great relationship with Poshks store.
They provide us with all kinds of support.
The store is located right on the highway in New Town.
We’ve met people who are also designers and we’ve learned a lot,” she explained.
She said she hopes to open her first store in Bengalurus first.
“If I have to choose, I’d like to start out in Mumbai,” she enthused.
“It’s a nice location and I like the idea of working in a different city, with different cultures.”
Poshko is looking at a number more countries besides India, with plans to open another store in Singapore by the second half of 2018.
“Our vision is to have a store in Delhi by the first half of 2020.
We will soon open a store there as well,” Chawlas said.
The company plans to build its online shop in more cities and has already begun a pilot program with the Indian government.
